Where is the course?  How do I get there?

How long is the course?
BRC = three days    ERC = one day
Do I have to pre-register for the class?
YES - NO "walk on" and NO "stand by".  
How do I pre-register?
Answer on the Registration Page - as of 9 Oct 08 - all registration is conducted on-line.
Do you provide motorcycles?
NO, FTCC offers BRC & and provides motorcycles - you will have to pay for the course.   Other colleges in NC
Do you provide riding gear?
NO, each rider is responsible for their own riding gear.  DOT approved helmet, shatter proof eye protection, sturdy over the ankle boots and no skin below the chin - and your reflective belt or vest. 
Can I borrow a friends motorcycle?
Yes, the motorcycle must be: street legal, have a valid state license (learners permit to attend BRC and an endorsement to attend ERC, you can attend BRC with an endorsement) and proof of current insurance

NO SHARING MOTORCYCLES - each rider must have a motorcycle.  

Is there a test?
Yes, you must pass a written and motorcycle skills test.
I have an MSF Card from "insert post or college" do I have to take it again on Fort Bragg??
No, if you are in possession of a MSF Card - enjoy the ride.  Don't believe this, read AR 385-10

Any MSF course riders card, that states on the card, that the course meets the standards of the MSF ERC or BRC is acceptable and meets the Army’s standard.  

Never hurts to sharpen your skills - schedule for an ERC - no cost to you and what you learn could be priceless.

The Fort Bragg standard motorcycle safety rider’s course was changed on 30 April 2007 to the MSF BRC IAW Army policy.  The previous standard was the ERC which is still being offered to those skilled motorcycle riders with previous training and a motorcycle endorsement on their state driver’s license.

Is there a weekend schedule?
YES -  You can not be charged leave to attend, per DoDI 605504
LOST MSF Card - I lost my MSF Card - what do I do?
e-mail (LOST MSF CARD) provide: name, type of class and date (month & year) class was completed, once research is completed to verify a "replacement" card will be issued.  Has it been a more than 36 months?  Might as well schedule for ERC - records are only maintained for 36 months.  We only replace "Ft Bragg issued MSF Cards"  If you did not attend ERC or BRC on Fort Bragg, you will have to contact the other location for replacement card assistance - It never hurts to sharpen your skills - schedule for an ERC.

If you registered on AIRs, return to AIRs and print a copy of your Student Record and bring it to the ISO, Room 226 (same building as BRC Classroom.  We only replace "Ft Bragg issued MSF Cards" 

What do you do if it rains?  Will you cancel the course?
Get wet, Army Training Rule applies "If it ain't raining, we ain't training" - Prepare for wet weather - bring rain gear.  Classes are cancelled when weather conditions close Fort Bragg.  All other weather decisions are made on the range by the Rider Coach.   Safety is #1 - classes will be delayed/cancelled under severe weather conditions.  
Can my spouse take this class?
Yes, family members are eligible to attend BRC or ERC. 
Do I really have to bring water?
YES, the range does not have potable water available. The facilities are VERY limited; port-o-john, shade tree and cement tables. THE COURSE IS PHYSICALLY DEMANDING, the NC heat will drain you - hydration is vital.
I ride a trike or Can-Am Spyder, can I take the course on a trike or Can-Am Spyder?  How do I get a post decal, if I can not take the course on a trike or Can-Am Spyder?
No.  The BRC & ERC are for two wheeled motorcycles, not trikes or sidecar rigs "hack" or a Can Am Spyder.  If you wish to attend a course designed for trikes and sidecars, please contact: http://www.ncmotorcyclesafety.org/ look for their Trike Section.  You do not have to have the course in order to register your trike and obtain a decal.
What paperwork do I need to bring?
Copy of your AIRS Class Registration, the one sent automatically by AIRS - might assist you in getting on post. 

1. Common Access Card (you might refer to this as your "ID Card" or "CAC Card") ,

4. proof of insurance

How do I get the bike on post?
On the day of your scheduled course, you may ride and show the guard your class registration paperwork.  You may truck, trailer or have another person ride the bike.  Some of the personnel working the gate believe the course is only on Monday, it may have been "back in the day".  Be patient, have your AIRS Class Registration paperwork ready to provide.  AR 385-10 11-9(b)5 also addresses this topic.
POST DECAL - when I complete the course, can I get a post decal?
Once you pass the BRC or ERC, you must have a motorcycle endorsed license in order to obtain a post decal.   Yes, there will be an additional cost at the DMV before they issue you a new license.  You can NOT obtain a Post Decal with a Learners Permit and you can NOT obtain a Post Decal with a temporary license plate (paper tag) on your motorcycle.

To register a motorcycle on Fort Bragg, all Military personnel and DOD Civilians must have a motorcycle endorsement on their state driver’s license and a MSF rider’s completion card along with the required vehicle documentation needed to be issued a DOD decal.

What are some of the laws concerning motorcycles?

Do I need a "special" license to ride a motorcycle?
YES - you must have at least a Motorcycle Learners Permit  to attend BRC, you may attend BRC with a motorcycle endorsement.  You must have a motorcycle endorsement to attend ERC.
How do I transfer my current license to a NC Drivers License??

Learners Permit - How do I get a learners permit?
From the state that issued your drivers license, don't have time to "go home" you may transfer your current DL to NC.  There will be a cost and you must relinquish your current DL, there is also a written test.  Click here for link to NC Motorcycle Handbook.  You do NOT have to obtain a NC drivers license in order to attend the course.

Learners Permit - Skill Test Waiver
As of 1 Oct 08 - previously issued NC Skill Test Waiver Card will no longer be issued. (Click here for information) If you have a NC Learners Permit - you will have to pass the NC Skills Test in order to obtain a NC Motorcycle Endorsed License - when you pass BRC you will have the skill to pass NC Skill Test. 
Learners Permit or Endorsement -
You must have one, any state issued Learners Permit or Endorsement.  NC DMV will encourage you to obtain a Learners Permit, this does not require them to administer a Skills Test.  As of 1 Oct 08 - you will no longer receive a NC Skill Test Waiver Card and will be required to take the Skills Test.  If you can pass the Skills Test - obtain your NC Motorcycle Endorsed License and schedule for an ERC.  If you are a new rider or re-entry, obtain your Learners Permit and sign up for BRC.  Upon successful completion, you will have the skill to pass NC Skills Test.
Can I attend with out a Learner Permit or Motorcycle Endorsemet?
NO, Community Colleges offers BRC; provide motorcycles and do not require the rider to posses a license (they conduct their course non-public parking lot) - you will have to pay for the course.   Other colleges in NC

I have an ERC card, do I have to attend BRC??

No, you need a MSF card - BRC or ERC - one or the other - at this time, there is no requirement to have both.  There is no requirement to attend BRC before ERC - you must meet the ERC requirements.  All it will cost is your "time" the course is FREE and what you learn could save you time and money.

Do I have to wear my uniform?
Civilian clothing or uniform - as long as you meet the PPE requirements - remember, "no skin below the chin"
I ride a MOPED, do I need: a motorcycle license and a MSF course?

You must be age 16 or older to operate a MOPED on NC highways or public vehicular areas.  A driver license is NOT required.  You must wear the required PPE.  A MOPED can NOT have a motor of more than 50 CCs and external shifting device or have the capability of exceeding 30 miles per hours on a level surface.  

I ride a scooter, do I need: a motorcycle license and a MSF course?
Yes, a scooter (over 50ccs) requires a motorcycle license and completion of the MSF BRC.  If you have a MSF card - NO requirement to attend however, you should be aware - scooters handle differently than motorcycles. 
I ride an "off-road bike", do I need: a motorcycle license?
Off-Road Dirt Bike does not require a Motorcycle Endorsement if it is not Titled and licensed for NC Highway use. double click on underline for more information

You do need to complete a MSF Course BEFORE riding a motorcycle, even if you only ride in the dirt - AR 385-10.  Completion of MSF Training before you ride a motorcycle.
